Warranty

 

The word ‘warranty’ is easily and often manipulated today. Clever attorneys create warranties for manufactures that say a lot, but mean little. Many contractors say that they will warrant a job for life, but most of them have no intention of ever holding firm to that promise. Often they aren’t even in business anymore when they are called upon.

 

As I write this letter for our website (June 2009), it’s revealing to look at just the past 24 months. In this turbulent economic time, the siding and window industry has been through historic changes. We currently have about 50% of the manufacturers we had just 2 years ago. Even large, notable brands like Alcoa, Mastic, Louisiana Pacific are either out of business or operating under bankruptcy law. Therefore, the carefully worded warranties of companies that use these manufacturers are basically worthless.

 

As I have done throughout this website, I want to reiterate trust. Since beginning in 1985, I have always sought out not only the leading manufacturers for the best products, but also manufactures that have a 100% commitment to customer satisfaction as well as an excellent, honest warranty. That is why I have chosen Marvin Windows, Simonton Windows, and Crane Siding as my manufacturers. They have proven to me over time that they do intend to always stand behind their products and their warranties.

 

However, the manufacturer’s warranty is secondary. The most important aspect of any warranty comes from your local contractor. If that company is not in business, your warranty is hardly valuable, and if the product isn’t deficient at all, but poorly installed, the manufacturer won’t insure anything. Rather, your contractor insures (or, rather, often doesn’t) that.

 

Sideco/Windco installs all of its products with specifications and procedures that guarantee them to last long and perform well. In the unlikely event that a product needs any repair or replacement, I warrant our siding and windows personally for 20 years (this is in addition to the manufacturer‘s product warranty). I back this promise up with a 25 year record. All other items (doors, gutters, etc.) carry a 3 year warranty.
